Fiction Critiques
Unsure if your story makes sense? Feel like you're missing something, but you're not sure what? Just need a second opinion?
Well, you're in luck. I can help with that!
With this service, I will carefully read your draft and provide thorough feedback and constructive criticism on plot, characterization, voice, continuity, logic, word choice, and more. I will do this through thorough in-line comments, a personalized critique of up to 2 pages in length, and a detailed response to any specific questions or concerns you might have.
I earned a BA in English from George Mason University (the #1 school for English majors in 2013), where I concentrated in creative writing. I graduated with a final GPA of 3.84 and straight A's in all of my creative writing classes (Intro to Creative Writing, Fiction Writing, Forms of Fiction, Advanced Fiction Writing Workshop, and Advanced Nonfiction Writing Workshop). I have provided feedback for over 150 stories and have volunteered as a slush pile reader for CRAFT Literary and an intern judge during the 2017 Writer's Games.
Currently offered on a donation or pay-what-you-can basis for stories under 5,000 words. For stories of 5,000+ words, contact me for a quote. I accept payments/donations through PayPal and Venmo.

Contact Elizabeth / Request a Quote
If requesting a critique:
- Please include (1) the FULL wordcount of your story, minus the title and header information, and (2) any details I should know about (e.g. if you are in a rush, any specific concerns you have, whether the story is yours or someone else's, etc.).
- For all stories at/above 5,000 words, I will request a small sample of the story (to judge how much time I'll need to devote to it) and will require payment via PayPal or Venmo before I begin your critique.
- Please do not try to pull a bait-and-switch by cutting your longer story into 4,999 word slices and sending them to me one at a time. I will catch on and, upon submission of the 2nd slice, will require payment for both the 1st and 2nd slices before I will continue your critique.
- I reserve the right to refuse your critique request at my discretion (for example, if the work is plagiarized, if we've had unpleasant relations in the past, if you pull a bait-and-switch like the kind described above, etc.), although I will complete any job we've mutually agreed upon and that I've been paid to do.
- I currently offer critiques on stories under 5,000 words on a donation basis. I will send you my PayPal/Venmo information with the final critique; please donate whatever you think the feedback is worth. However, be aware that this policy may change in the future.
- THIS IS NOT AN EDITING SERVICE. I am not a line editor or copy editor and will not edit your work in that way (and neither would you want me to, trust me). The service I provide is more akin to Developmental Editing. Please read this article to learn more about what that entails.
